Firefox + RTM + Skype Plug-in = woah

vannatter says:

So to anyone else wondering why their RTM might be running slow and laggy (and eating up 2GB+ of RAM on Firefox), it appears to be something funky with the Skype FF plugin and RTM.

If I disable the plugin, everything runs smoothly.

Funky stuff.

Hi vannatter,

Hmm, that's weird -- there was a similar issue around a year ago and someone from Skype posted that they had it fixed.

Can I ask:

1) Which version of Firefox you're using
2) Which version of the Skype plugin you're using
3) Which operating system you're using

This might be something we need to report to the Skype folks.

Thanks! :)

Hey gang,

I've got the same problem (with the same solution funnily enough!).

1) 3.5 - The problem has only surfaced since the Firefox 3.5 upgrade
2) 3.3.0.3493
3) Windows Vista SP1

1) 3.5
2) 3.3.0.3290 and +, ive downgraded since this one causes 'less lag'..
3) Win XP SP3

I've sent this to Skype as well, but yeah. heh.

I can live without the Skype plugin, but not RTM.

keep up the great work.

Mine has also gone very slow since upgrading to FF 3.5, but I don't use Skype.

There is a delay of about 1-2 seconds whenever I enter something, tab between fields, press a shortcut key, etc.

There seem to be a lot of people having problems with FF slowing/crashing on pages with javascript if you Google around. I also have problems on other sites, not just RTM.

If you have this problem in a new Firefox profile (i.e. without the Skype extension, or any others, no tweaked settings, etc.), would it be possible to submit a Logging In & Loading issue report via our support system?

Please select the issue that you're experiencing from the list on the left, and follow the steps shown. If your issue isn't listed, just click on "I'd like to report a new issue" on the left.

Your report should provide all the info that we need to investigate further, but we'll be in touch via email if we require any more details.

Thanks!
