RTM Hangs in Chrome

Yup, this sounds like a Gears issue (we have more info on this on our status blog).
If you experience any kind of issue loading RTM (including the page getting ’stuck’ loading), we’d recommend first trying to disable permission for the RTM site in Gears to see if this resolves the issue.
To do this, go to the Gears settings dialogue in your browser (’Tools’ > ‘Google Gears Settings’) and disable permission for RTM.
