Assign task to 'team members' - best practices?

If i were to 'send' a task to a team member, then i would not be able to see those tasks unless they moved them to the list shared between us all. So it seems the only way to assign a task and still be able to see it is to tag the person's name. just seems a tad awkward...
any tips would be great!
