Mark task as complete on due date (auto-complete)

(closed account) says:
Is there a way that I can create a task and set it up so that the task will automatically be marked as completed when the due date comes around?

For example, I'd like to keep track of birthdays in RTM. If I create a task for my wife's birthday, I'd like to get an email reminding me that it is my wife's birthday, and then the task can complete itself and schedule a recurrence next year.

I guess this is more of an event than a task, but I'd prefer not to have to use two different services to keep track of events and tasks.

Thanks!

Google Calendar is really what you want, but short of that, how about tagging all of your events that you wish to be "autocompleted" and then suppress them (tag:foo AND overdue) in your smartlists, and they will 'vanish' from sight.

Do tasks in archived lists still sent out reminder emails? If so, you could create a birthday gray-list and just archive it so you didn't have it in sight all the time.

Thanks guys. I'll give it a shot. Maybe it would be less of a hassle to just mark them complete myself.

I second this request... I send myself a LOT of reminders such as "check email", "take out trash", "check voicemail" etc... It's a pain in the ass to come into my RTM account and complete 50 items that were only scheduled - not overdue.

If you suppress overdue recurring items, or overdue items with a certain tag, e.g., nonag, then you can ignore these housekeeping items until you have a moment to wipe them clean.

I have a list of overdue recurring tasks that I clear out periodically, along the lines of what you describe.
