Is it possible to change tags for multiple items?

I'm trying to tag several items in a list, but it seems to be very painful. Is there a good way to do this?

Sorry, found the answer. Apparently "Multi Edit" mode does the trick. Things seem more intuitive with Multi Edit enabled. Why isn't it the default, or at least a visual cue for it like a checkbox.
