Using local files in URL

Having a bit of a problem with this.
When I enter the location that works from with IE nothing is returned from RTM.
for example I'm putting this into the RTM URL field ...
file:///c:/text.txt
... but nothing happens - not even a 404 page
I'd like to be able ot link to a local document - for extended notes / references etc.

Hi David,
Can I ask which version of IE you're using? Also, are you using any third-party security software?
Some browsers block file:// links from webpages for security reasons, although I'm not sure of IE's policy on this.
