RTM slowing down

jlneedham says:
I'm in month three of really enjoying RTM, but have begun to notice that, both online or offline, pages are loading more slowly. Whether I click on the tab for a list or run a search, I can count up to one, two, or three sometimes further before the page arrives. Again, this happens in all circumstances. Is this the result of the accumulation of tasks that have to be processed for particular actions?

Having written the above, I decided to check IE, to confirm the issue's not isolated to Firefox. Nope, I was able to count to 10 thousands (roughly 10 seconds) before my bigger task list loaded. So, it's worse.

What's up?

jlneedham, we'd love to investigate this and see what's happening. We did run some initial diagnostics on your account, but haven't been able to see anything that might be causing this slowness as of yet. So that we can investigate this further, would it be possible to let us know the following?

1) What's the speed of the Internet connection you're using?
2) Which operating system are you using?
3) Which versions of IE and Firefox are you using?
4) Which version of Google Gears are you using, and is it installed in both browsers? (You can find out the version number by going to 'Tools' then 'Google Gears Settings'.)
5) Do you have any extensions or browser add-ons installed (such as Firebug or the Google Toolbar)?
6) Are you running any anti-virus, anti-spyware, firewall, pop-up blocking, or ad blocking software?
7) Are you able to provide any details about the computer that you're using (e.g. model, processor speed, RAM, etc)?
8) Would it be possible to try running Firefox in safe mode and see if this makes a difference?
9) Are any particular tabs or search queries more affected by this issue? If so, could you please let us know which ones?

Sorry for all the questions! It's possible that something in particular in your environment is affecting RTM in some way, so this information will help us to fully investigate and hopefully track down what's happening.

Just wanted to post an update on this -- the question about security or anti-virus software is particularly important. We've found some issues caused by McAfee recently (and other software may have similar issues). It's necessary to add Remember The Milk to the exceptions in this software, otherwise it can cause RTM to slow down (and cause other unpredictable behaviour). Hope this helps!
