Sorry to hear this! First, if you're open to upgrading to 17.2 there have been a lot of fixes there in terms of performance, including with widgets.

Second, the process of upgrading or just restarting your phone may help reset the widgets.

Last, opening the app and making sure it is running in the background (i.e. not quitting it manually) should help as well.
