Notice period for a task?

I can't see any way I can set up RTM to only display my three monthly recurring tax return a week before it's due - that is to say that I don't really want this task to display in my lists all of the time - too cluttered. If this isn't possible, it would be good to have a "notice" attribute for each tack/recurring task. Thanks.
Philip - Many people here have the same reaction you do, and there are many requests for a notice date or a start date.
Until the vast RTM development team chooses to act on that, the current solution is to create a smart list that only displays things that fit within a certain threshold. That can be as simple anything due within the next 7 days, or more complex like:
all priority 1 items due in the next 30 days AND
all priority 2 items due in the next 15 days AND
all priority 3 items due in the next 7 days AND
all no priority items due tomorrow AND
anything due today AND
anything overdue
Clearly there are many ways to tweak that (e.g., by location or tag). If you want help on smartlist syntax, here's the relevant page:

To me, smartlists obviate the need for a start date, but I seem to be in the minority in that regard.

The problem with smart lists like ranbarton describes is that you can't add tasks to them.
Or rather, you can but they will immediately disappear as they don't fulfil the smart list criteria.
I find that extremely annoying and removed all "duewithin"-criteria in my smart lists for that very reason.
If anybody have some ideas in this area I would be grateful!

Rajjan - I have recently discovered that new tasks added to a smart list don't disappear if you have a "default list" set in your list if lists in "settings".
