Mac hotkey for adding a new task

Hi
I'm considering coming back to RTM (after a 2-year absence), but there's one thing that's preventing me still.
For the last couple of years I've been using Things, which is a Mac and iOS task-management app. In many ways it's inferior to RTM, but it does have one feature I've become dependent upon - there is a system-wide hotkey for bringing up the "New Task" window.
By this I mean there is a specific key combination that I can hit, whatever other application I'm in, to quickly add a new task.
Is there a way to do this on with RTM? At the moment I have to switch to the web browser (which might be on a different desktop), switch to the RTM tab, then either use a mouse-click or keyboard shortcut to start creating the new task. This is too long-winded, having become used to the one-hotkey anywhere method.
Is there a way to do this? I could probably come up with some Launchbar/Applescript hack, but want to check first.
Regards
Glenn.
