This is looking great! Well done! I'm running a tablet and an HTC phone, and it seems to be working fine. Wonderful stuff!
amirmasoudabdol says:
Thanks, the new Android version is exciting. Amazingly fast and good looking.
I'm going to switch to another task management and it makes me sad, but now I can strongly recommend RTM to my friends again :)
Next project: "Sync with Evernote" or Maybe "SubTask" :D

Excellent, was going to discontinue my pro account due to lack of updates and value. This update looks like it may have change my mind. Still think the pro cost is a little on the high side, but there is really no alternative RTM!

This looks great. Now if only the web app would get an update (not so much function-wise, but certainly design-wise - a bit better RTM plus greasemonkey only takes you so far...).
davidscottweaver says:
Wow. You guys have been busy! This is by far the best set of updates you've ever put into the app. Great new widgets. Multi-edit. RTM in the share menu. Holy moly you guys are filled with awesome awesomeness. Thank you!
arwild01 says:
On the whole.. love it. Especially happy to see some of the items that I'd been championing in the "Ideas forum" (smart add widget, share with RTM) made their way into the app.
However, I already have some complaints...
When you run a wall of widgets (http://blog.rememberthemilk.com/2011/09/tips-tricks-tuesday-wall-of-widgets/) with several 2x2 widgets on the screen at once... the new widget UI eats up so much space at the top and bottom of the widget that I can only see info on four tasks at a time. In the screenshot for that post you can tell that RTM before can show twice that many.
It would be good to offer either a seperate, "anadorned" vertsion of the widget (or a per-widget setting) to turn the title bars off to get the old behavior.
Also... I don't care for having the "complete task" check box in the upport right. It's a long way for my thumb to travel for such an important feature.
I would recommend relocating that entire blue bar (with name of the list, etc.) to the bottom of the window.... it would make the app more ergonomic. Yes, that's counter to what people expect on desktop apps... but for smart phones... when you place key items at the top... it's 1) harder to reach and 2) your hand actually obscures your view of the screen while you are trying to access the button.

Great work.
The widgets really need a drop-shadow of some sort. They look really weird without it.

nuteater says:
Good work! The only thing that bugs me is that there is less space available for tasks in the 2x2 widget now that the header is bigger. I know you are probably not updating the app any time soon but if you take wishlist items for the next update I'd like to propose a configurable font size or some other way to cram more visible tasks to the widgets. Maybe I should be posting this to the Ideas-forum...
bob3015 says:
Great improve. But need the ability to copy tasks.
simon.roby says:
The new 2x2 widget is terrible, way too much spacing and a way too big header. A definite regression, I hope you'll fix it.
bdoherty says:
Like others have said, the header on the widget takes up too much space (see
https://www.rememberthemilk.com/forums/ideas/13760/).
Also, I used to have "Nearby" as my default list. Now it takes at 3-4 taps to get to the Nearby list.

Great update! Thanks RTM!
But, I agree with the 2x2 widget problem btw. It holds too few tasks.

Another vote against the too-large header. Having a header with the name of the list being shown: good; including the + to add a new task: good. Just make it smaller. Nice and small, in fact. Most of the time, I'm well aware of the list I'm viewing.
An option to turn off the header would also be GREAT.

hakan42 says:
Many people already wrote about the too large header of the 2x2 widget, so just add my +1 here, i can see only five tasks in the widget now :-(
An additional item is the very strong blue color of the new widget. The old, more subdued, grey color matched the rest of the panel much better, so count me in for another +1 for bringing back the old colors or even themeing / skinning support.

Love the update. Agree with the comment by @arwild01 - it think the blue bar would be better on the bottom from an ergonomic standpoint
overall awesome update though!

like the update, but agree with the comments on the 2x2 widget. can't see as many tasks yet and the color blue is too obtrusive.
smh8 says:
Big fan of the update overall. Some great added abilities/flexibility. I'm having an issue with the widget updating on the home screen after edits made while "in" the app. Anecdotal thus far.
There are some stronger opinions then mine above but also agree the header is a little overwhelming to the 2x2. The larger widgets less so/almost N/A on the 4x4.

Hi. I am following up on my comment from launch day. I am now experiencing some of the problems other users are with the application stalling/freezing/quitting unexpectedly. This happens probably about 45-55% of the time.
mclei says:
New GUI looks good, but I don't like this:
- Big tabs "Incomplete/Completed" which is useless for me and ocupies too much space on my phone
- When viewing Task detail, the "Edit" button disappears from standard menu. It is only in top right menu which is too small for fingers. Please bring it back to standard system menu.

I posted a separate topic before I spotted the discussion in here - oops!
As per what I posted in that topic, I agree with the comments regarding the title on the new widgets being too much, and add my voice to the calls for some configuration options to restore the old look.

Love it - App interface is great. I like the dashboard, but thanks very much for allowing us to still set the opening page. Great! And I really, really, really appreciate being able to check off an item without entering into each one. I haven't had a reminder pop up yet so I can't comment on that, but I hope it's the same.
on my 2x2 widget I can see7 items, and like having the big blue quick add button. The blue doesn't really go with my theme, but maybe someday we can have the choice to set our own color. It matches the app nicely.

Lots of neat stuff overall!
I do agree w/ mclei re: the not-very-usefulness of the incomplete/completed tab thingy. I'm not sure about others, but I honestly cannot think of a single time I've accessed completed tasks on my phone or tablet, and even from the web interface it's very, very rare. When I want to look up a completed task, I can just search for it instead :). I'd rather have that incomplete/completed bar used for something else.

+1 to: 2x2 widget is almost useless, because all the overhead eats up 70% of the space and leaves room for only 5 tasks.
And... the upper right + menu item is WAY too far for my thumb, when using my phone with my left hand, which is most of the time.
Because of these two reasons, I'm rolling back to previous release. These are the two most frequent use cases, and both have significantly deteriorated in their user experience.

Topic: Feedback on the 2.0 Version
First of all , Thanks this is a much needed update. And makes me very happy being a pro user. It had gotten pretty silent for some time now.
Some feedback
- 2*2 widget is not useful, Lots of space being wasted on the widgets
- Need a widget that says today-tomorrow-later etc more intuitive that way
- The 4*4 widget is great but , It not very intuitive, once filled up , it has so much information that you tend to get lost
Hope that's useful
thanks
Chandan

Hi! What about idea of separate widgets for RMT? More and more widgets we need: 4x3, 4x2, variant of widgets without header...

Hi
Nice update, works fine. But the original RTM logo as notification icon was much better then the silouette. Can we get the original logo back? :)

Great work! Very useful!
Hello, new version makes hard to edit/postpone task (buttons on slide @task list are easy to miss, edit-postpone are even harder to point @ exact task view/edit).
I need BIG edit/postpone buttons back, at least show them after hitting menu button.
And also, where previous "by week day" sublistings? "this week" shows too much information.
At least let me download 1.4.5. 2.0 is REALLY harder to use.

I love this update and in particular the widget badge things. I'd abandoned my pro account and had switched to Astrid. If my $25 sub pays for upgrades like this then I'm happy to pay.

thanks for updating the 2x2 widget to show a couple more tasks!

THANK YOU! I'm so glad to finally see some improvement to the Android app. I just hope the new widgets still display just as many tasks as the old ones. Looking forward to giving this a try.

This is a great update. Excellent work!
However, I've one small gripe.
It's really difficult to figure out what the new reminder icon is in the Notification bar. The previous icon was fine.
My usage is to be notified of reminders at 8.00am for today's task. Typically the cow bell rings and the RTM icon appears in the notification bar and I drag down to select the RTM notification and the days tasks.
It actually looks like the RTM icon is missing and Android has reverted to a default.

Whew, there's a lot of feedback here. :) Thanks for your thoughts, everyone!
As you've probably seen, in our 2.0.1 update we tweaked the 2x2 widget to show more tasks -- thanks for everyone's feedback on this.
Regarding the icons in the notification bar, the reason for the change to grey is so that we comply with the UI guidelines for Android Status Bar Icons -- unfortunately the guideline is grey icons only. :( (From 3.0+, it'll be white icons.) We'll have to check this out and see if there's any way to make our icons stand out more.
If you have new ideas for features or improvements to the app, please make sure to post them over in the Android category on the Ideas forum too -- we're using the Ideas forum to gauge the level of interest for each request, and help us make development decisions for future updates. :)

A grey cow head (like the default avatar here) should stand out well enough. Add a checkmark on his face if you like, but I'm not sure it's necessary.
(Incidentally, I actually like what I see of the current notification icon, but I can see how it might be confusing to some since it's similar to the installed app icon.)

zizagoo says:
The plus button in the action bar when you're in Lists section creates a new task when it should really create a new list. This forces you to press the menu button to access "Add List" in the option menu. Another point is that some way to Select all/Inverse select in Task lists would be very useful now you've added the ability to edit multiple tasks, as sometimes selecting multiple checkboxes is time consuming.
Overall though very good job. My only worry is that due to the timing you may sign off on the app before you're able to align to the Android 4.0 UX guidelines, which would be a great shame.

I'm very disappointed with new version! I'm constantly loosing task notes! And task marked as Completed a again shown as incompleted. I'm synchronizing 2 Android devices - is this not supported?

Hi there,
Thank you so much for releasing this app for Androids! Only one question: are there any plans in the works to allow one to use a google log-in if that's how one accesses one's account here? I feel so close, yet so far away from being able to rock this update!
Thanks in advance!

smart bar widget is absolutely fantastic! Very nice work on that. The other widgets are so-so and I agree that especially the 2x2 is far too much header, not enough content. But smart add is really impressive, the main reason I returned to RTM (and bought pro) after trying other system was that it actually offered a practical way to add tasks through a mobile interface.
goraleksi says:
4x3 widget will be useful with smart bar widget.

Holy crap I love the new Android app. I mean, honestly, fantastic job guys.
As I'm looking through some of the other suggestions I think the best ones are:
- 4x3 widget (would be especially nice because then we could put the 4x1 smart add bar and a 4x3 list widget on the same screen)
- Honeycomb version would be awesome!
Thanks again!
