URL problems

Also when I click on a URL it opens for editing rather than taking me to the location specified. Is this the correct behaviour?

Clicking on the URL itself should open the webpage in your browser; clicking on the URL icon (the small chain link) should open the URL field for editing. The behavior you're seeing may be related to the first issue you mentioned. You should be able to go to the URL by clicking on one of the characters of the URL itself, rather than one of the boxes that are displayed between the characters.
