I'm having the same issue. Tried reinstalling Chrome, etc.
I think the problem might be that Google no longer supports Gears: http://gearsblog.blogspot.com/2011/03/stopping-gears.html
What do we do?

As mentioned in the article that sernovitz posted, Google will be discontinuing support for Gears and it was removed from Chrome 12. Most likely your version of Chrome was recently updated to this version.
Unfortunately, we don't currently offer offline access without Google Gears. Sorry for any inconvenience.
However, we're very excited about the possibilities of offline access using HTML5 technologies in the future. This post from our blog discusses the situation in more detail. You may also want to show your support for offline access by voting for it in our Ideas forum.
Thanks!

jean,
Sorry, but we don't have any announcements right now concerning a timeline. As indicated in the post in the Ideas forum, however, we are looking into this.

I posted a small guide on my blog on how to use Chrome v11 instead of the latest version, and thus be able to use RTM in offline mode again:

Please resolve this as soon as possible it's a huge issue for me as I travel a lot in places with no internet and it's one of the main reasons I chose RTM. The iphone is ok but the form factor of the device is very limited to the reviewing a large number of tasks.

Just read the new blog post regarding offline access. There is a lot of talk about "Google" and "Chrome". I hope you don't plan to make oflline access available for this browser exclusively. I use IE9 and don't plan to switch to Chrome.

Hi eb26,
IndexedDB (the database technology required for HTML5 offline support) is not available in IE9, unfortunately. :( Microsoft has been experimenting with this technology, though, so it looks like it's something they plan to support in the future. We'll be able to evaluate IE support at that stage.
