Hi folks,

New to RTM, and using it for my GTD efforts at getting organised!

However, I'm struggling to find a way of creating a smartlist with items that are not currently affilliate with any list.

In other words, I'd like to be able to use "isListed:false", but that doesn't seem to work.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Hi neil.raygun,
Welcome to Remember The Milk! :)

It's not possible for tasks to exist outside of some list; by default, tasks added without specifying a list would be added to your Inbox, so perhaps you'd be able to find what you want by searching for

list:Inbox

Also, it is possible for a task to be untagged, so you can search for

isTagged:false

Hope this helps!

Hey Andrewski,

Thanks for the info!

So, if I understand you correctly, anything that isn't added to a list will automatically appear in my Inbox?

Cheers,

Neil

Is there any way to do something like this that includes ALL tasks EXCEPT specified lists? I've tried multiple iterations of the following search but I've having trouble getting it to do what I want:

list:all tasks NOT (list:someday maybe OR list:books I've loaned out OR list:research OR list:waiting for OR list:zzz OR list:day off)

I've tried variations with quotations (perhaps the problem is the way I've named my lists?) and so on...

Is there a single location where the possible search terms and how they work are listed?

Thanks!

AHAAA I found it!

http://www.rememberthemilk.com/help/answers/search/advanced.rtm

BUT it's still not solving my problem. I searched for all tasks added after Dec. 31, 2010, but the "not" lists are still not working--I have tasks showing up that shouldn't show up. I added the quotes back in and fixed capitaiization to match, like so:

addedAfter:31/12/2010 NOT (list:“Someday Maybe” OR list:“Books I've loaned out” OR list:Research OR list:“Waiting for” OR list:zzz OR list:“Day Off”)

...certain tasks (in Someday Maybe and Books I've loaned out) are still showing.

Now what?

deirdre.hess,
From the search you posted, it appears that you are using "curved" quotes (“ ”) to enclose your list names. Try using "ambidextrous" or "straight" quotes (" ") instead.

Many word processors will automatically convert quotation marks to the "curved" quotes, even when you type "straight" quotes. In general, browsers do not do this. If you copied and pasted this search from a word processor application, try typing the search directly into the search field in the web app.

Hope that helps!
