No more Gears, HTML5 Local Data Storage support ?

rapiere says:
Next version of Chrome (v12) won't have anymore Google Gears supported and it will end one of my favorite feature of RTM which was offline mode.

Do you have any plan to support Local Data Storage as it's standardized now in HTML5 instead of Gears ?

Thanks.

We are enthusiastic about offline access, and are currently looking at ways that we can support this in the future without Gears. This post from our blog discusses the topic in more detail.

Sorry for any inconvenience in the meantime.

+1 here. My Chrome just updated to 13.0-dev and no more Gears for me. Lost completely all offline access to my list :-(

RTM folks: I know there's quite some work to rewrite the offline module, but local storage for HTML5 is already functional and stable, so would be great if you can prioritize it.

Thanks!

I recently uninstalled and reinstalled Chrome (to diagnose some problems with the RTM Gmail browser add on) and now my current version of Chrome (11.0.696.71) does not support Offline access to Gmail.
It offers Offline access to Gcalender and RTM via Gears, but given the way Chrome is going with Gears (ie not supported) I have not enabled Gears.
Off line access is important to me so here is another +1 for local storage via HTML5.

Thanks - Martin.

I like RTM very much, but without offline mode, i will not think about going pro. But it is already a nice and very useful piece of software. It changed my way of organizing my work.

Thanks.

Hey,

My +1 here. With gears gone from Firefox for a while now, and gears officially deprecated by Google, another solution is urgently needed!

Thanks

RTM please can you sort out Offline access, its very important to me.

Don't make me use IE8, its like stepping back in time, its soooooooo slow.

Please put some focus into HTML5 offline storage, I look forward to your solution.

Thank in-advance

Offline access is the ONLY reason I chose RTM over so many others. Then I realized RTM is really useful. But without offline in FF4/Chrome12, it's not only lost it's magic for me, but now I'm in crisis mode! I've found Chrome v.11 online, but now there seems to be bugs even with this old version of chrome. HELP. please.

Ouch - just realised that Gears has been removed from Chrome and I can no longer access RTM offline. When will offline support in Chrome be supported again by RTM? Is there a 'fat' client I could use as an alternative?

I posted a small guide on my blog on how to fix this, so you can use offline mode again:

+1 from me too, my Pro account just ran out and I'm reluctant to renew while there is a resounding silence from RTM on what they are doing about Offline access, the last official statement was over 2 months ago.

Hi alan.okeefe,

I've been updating over on the Offline support without Google Gears post on the Ideas forum (last update was a week ago) -- sorry it was easy to miss from the Help forum!

I'll close this forum topic (as it's a duplicate of the one on the Ideas forum) -- if anyone would like to contribute to the discussion, please head over to that post. Thanks!
