okay found a way out eventually. even if i typed rememberthemilk.com it kept logging me into offline mode. i found an old history link https://www.rememberthemilk.com/login/ and logged in all over again and it seems fine for now.
there's still definitely a glitch with the offline logout system though

Would it be possible to submit a Google Gears issue report via our support system, if you haven't done so already?
Just select your issue from the list on the left, and follow the steps shown. If your issue isn't listed, click on "I'd like to report a new issue".
Your report should provide all the info that we need to investigate further, but we'll be in touch via email if we require any more details.
Thanks!

Thanks lon247 for the suggestion. I pasted that URL and I can now get out of offline mode that I was stuck in for several days.

I am a new user having just enrolled a few days ago. Within a day or 2 I was stuck in offline mode and couldn't get out.
I'm using Chrome 10.0.648.204
