Search keyboard shortcut not working on non-US keyboard
Hi,
I'm using a keyboard where / (slash) and 7 is the same key (eg. I press Shift-7 to get /). This is used by a lot of non-US keyboard layouts (see below).
The problem is that this renders the Search function in RTM unusable!
If I click Ctrl-Shift-/ (or on my keyboard; Ctrl-Shift-7), I don't get Search, but the other action for Ctrl-Shift-7; "Switch to Tasks".
So - one of the *key* features of working effectively in RTM is now inaccessible via the keyboard.
I have seen a couple of forum posts about this and have also an open support case on this. My question to the user base would be;
If the RTM developers would add an additional shortcut combo with Ctrl-Shift-5; are there any keyboard layouts where this would have severe impacts?
I think it makes sense to keep the Ctrl-Shift-/ for us-keyboards. Allowing a lot of the non-US keyboards to access the Search feature with a keyboard shortcut, just adding this additional shortcut seems both smart, easy and with low risk.
Comments?
Cheers,
Henrik
BTW:
The keyboard setup with Shift-7 being "/" is shared on German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Finnish, Swedish, Norwegian, Estonian, and a lot of others; longer list here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keyboard_layout)

Hi Henrik,
You may have seen me say this elsewhere already (and I think I've written back to you by email too?), but I've added this to our list to investigate.
Sorry for the inconvenience in the meantime.

A possible solution (requires tweaks, and only works with FireFox);
* Download the "A bit better RTM" extension
* Modify the extension (in your firefox profile folder, find the aBitBetterRTM.js): Add a line after line 25 saying:
this.shortcuts.push(new ABBRTM.Shortcut(102, null, function(){$("#listFilter").focus().effect('highlight', '', 'slow');}, true, false, false));
This will (at least toes on my PC with en Firefox and no-nb keyboard setup) - override the Ctrl-F shortcut in Firefox for find-in-page to instead focusing the search field in RTM.
