RTM slow in Chrome

frangilbert says:
I've been using Chrome for a while now. I noticed about 2 months ago that RTM is very slow at loading even a list of a couple of items. Checking in Firefox it's working quickly, but Chrome makes it churn mighty slow.

Is this an issue with Chrome? Or RTM? I'm using the 8.0.552.200 beta

Found a solution to the issue for anyone looking. I disabled Google Gears here:
Google Chrome Options > Under the bonnet > Change Gears settings.

I can confirm that RTM works well when using Chrome with Gears disabled.

I also noticed that RTM works GREAT in IE 8 but horribly slow in Chrome, where most of the time Chrome outperforms IE in terms of performance.

I'm a Google Gears fan and have it enabled on other sites but haven't noticed sites being slower EXCEPT when using RTM.

I wanted to see how to disable gears just for Chrome, but it took me forever.

Quick answer: go to
about:plugins

and then scroll down to Google Gears and click "Disable."

Other documentation says to go to Wrench --> Gears, but that's not on my chrome. Others say to go Wrench --> Settings --> Under The good and scroll to Gears, but it's not there either.

This works, but it prevents me from creating application shortcuts for RTM which is how I ususually use it and one of the main reasons I like chrome for RTM. Would be nice if we could work around this.

You should be able to make application shortcuts for Chrome even without Gears enabled. This page from Google gives more information.

You can also create a desktop shortcut by dragging the favicon from the Omnibar to your desktop.

Hope that helps!

I was wondering why I had not been able to use RTM from inside Chrome for over a week. Removing permission for Google Gears and then denying it on reload of the page certainly did fix the problem.

This is obviously something proven to be a problem - RTM folks should post something about it in the FAQ so people don't have to go searching in the help forums to find out why RTM isn't working in Chrome.

rossruns,
Thanks for your feedback. In the past, we have posted about issues with Gears on our status blog as they arose.
