New: Push sync

emily (Remember The Milk) says:
The Android app now has push sync available as of version 1.4.0.

To use push sync, you'll need an Android device running OS version 2.2 (Froyo) or above. This device must have the Android Market app on it (and a Google account associated) for push syncing to work.

Please check out the blog post for more details.

We hope you like it! :)

Nice work! Will this affect my battery life more so than the auto syncing every x hours?

Does it mean that I cannot sync both ways if I got Android 2.1?
Posted 13 years ago
meno says:
borovenskis: You should be able to do normal 2 way sync on 2.1. You just won't be able to have it only sync when changes are made. Instead your phone will check with RTM for any new tasks on a schedule that you set.

@meno ah, ok.. I think that's totally enough to get a normal working system..

New app icon for updated Android OS UI.

Will Android 2.3 (3.0?) be so different it needs a new icon?
Posted 13 years ago
emily (Remember The Milk) says:
meno, theoretically there should actually be less impact on battery life (as the sync only happens when necessary, rather than having to run the full sync periodically). It uses the Android Cloud to Device Messaging Framework (C2DM) to push to the device only when a sync needs to take place.

Hope this helps!

emily (Remember The Milk) says:
ezhan, Google changed the UI guidelines for icon design -- previously the guidelines were to create an app icon with perspective, and now it's to create a front facing icon.

Our app icon should hopefully now match others on the device (no idea if the guidelines might change again for 2.3, but we'll be updating to stay consistent with the guidelines :).

@emily Thanks for the info. Hope push was as easy to implement as the windows phone 7 notifications are.

If I add (or delete) a task at the RTM website, the push sync works great--my phone updates almost immediately.

But if I use my windows 7 gadget (i.e. a third party desktop app) to add a task, the update *never* occurs on my phone (at least not until I press "refresh") even though the change shows up on the RTM website almost immediately.

Shouldn't all changes be pushed to my phone, no matter how they get into my RTM task list?

Oops please disregard my previous comment--it appears that tasks added by a third party program DO eventually get pushed--it just takes longer than it does if I enter the task directly into the RTM website.

push sync seems to be broken. It stopped working for me. Shame, I loved it.

emily (Remember The Milk) says:
Hi sgbirch,

Over the past 24 hours, Android push syncing has experienced delays unfortunately (syncing was still happening, just not as quickly as it should have been!). These delays have now been resolved and push sync is working on schedule once again. We've posted an update on the status blog. Sorry for the inconvenience!

If you experience any push syncing issues in the future, please let us know. Thanks! :)

Is it normal that when push sync is enabled, remember the milk uses a lot of partial wake time? It doesn't happen when it's set on a sync schedule.

Strange bug always happening when I sync from my laptop to android phone. Today (2 Dec) I set a task which is due today. In the internet RTM, it shows "due today". After syncing to Android, it is "due 1 Dec". And it is always one day before.

The opposite way, it syncs ok.

The dates in the phone and the laptop are the same. The laptop has its time set to GMT+3, and the phone to GMT+1. But, at the time I sync, they are both at the same date.

Thing is, this is one of the reasons why we can't install the app on the SD card. And yet I think it is less important in my opinion.

Just a thought.

Push notifications aren't working for me. I associated my Google account with RTM, ensured that Push Sync was enabled in the settings, and then started making changes on the website. Those changes were not propagated to my Android device (which is running Android 2.2 FroYo).

Any suggestions?

Would it be possible to submit an Android app issue report via our support system, if you haven't done so already?

Just select your issue from the list on the left, and follow the steps shown. If your issue isn't listed, click on "I'd like to report a new issue".

Your report should provide all the info that we need to investigate further, but we'll be in touch via email if we require any more details.

Thanks!
