Keeping Track of Birthdays

catherine.coffman says:
I'm trying to find a way to put in people's birthdays in one list with a due date of the actual birthday, but get a reminder the week or so before the date (to send cards, buy gifts, whatever). I can't figure out how to do this intuitively, does anyone have any suggestions?

You could try the sleeper tag method http://blog.rememberthemilk.com/2009/04/tips-tricks-tuesday-using-sleeper-tags/ in order to see the task one week in advance, but getting a reminder wouldn't work.

Maybe you could have a due date one week before the actual birthday and have that date in the task name instead?

What if you use Google calendar for the reminders? Create the birthday tasks with the tag "birthdays". Then import that those events - the iCal URL for the birthday-tagged events.

Then set up that Google calendar (from the notifications tab) to remind you so many days in advance.

I do this for bills. By default, I am reminded by RTM at the exact date/time that a task is due. However, for the "bills"-tagged tasks, those go to my Google calendar which is set up to send me reminders 2 or 3 days in advance.

I might actually try it with birthdays because I need a solution for those too!
