Can't sync RTM account with Astrid (Android 2.1)

I have an HTC Desire (UK). I have RTM and Astrid synced, mainly because the Pure Calendar widget synchronises with Astrid only. The synchronisation between RTM and Astrid does appear to happen automatically, only a manual synchroniation is done. Is there a way around this? Thanks.
