BlackBerry Sync Using 30MB data in about 2 weeks

I have posted a support ticket for this over a week ago, but received no reply.
I was noticing my Curve 8310 grinding to a halt, but it was unclear what the problem was. I followed some troubleshooting guides on the net, uninstalling 3rd party apps and free'ing up memory, nothing helped. Then I looked at MilkSync. In the two weeks since the start of the month it had sent and received over 30MB of data. Considering I have about 50 tasks, all short plain text, this is a phenomenal amount of data.
I'm quite techie, my employer are RIM partners, I'd like to help you troubleshoot this.
