creating basic lists

Go to Lists in your Settings area and use Add List to create the various lists you want.
Each list will now appear as a tab on your Tasks page (make sure you're on that page and not the Overview. If you are on the Overview click Continue to Tasks.

You don't have to enter any more than just the name/description of the task. You can add a bunch of other criteria in the Smart Add box if you want, but you don't have to. You could just type in "Buy cheese" and hit enter and start typing the next task name.
The task is saved in that list. You can change the criteria for it any time you want, either individually or en masse with other tasks.
